Department of Agriculture & Farmer’s Welfare Kishtwar in collab with SKUAST Jammu braces up for the Revival & Introduction of Black Zeera Cultivation across the District Kishtwar.

Distributed Black Zeera tubers among farmers at non traditional areas of Kishtwar and Padder area

Kishtwar,08-12-2022.

On the directions of Director of Agriculture, Jammu,K.K Sharma and under the abled guidance of District Development Commissioner, Kishtwar Dr Devansh Yadav-IAS,a total of 60,000 numbers of Black Zeera Tubers were distributed among 30 progressive Farmers of Block Padder ( Funded through NABARD & procured from Himachal Pradesh )
under the close supervision of Chief Agriculture Officer, (CAO) Kishtwar Amjad Hussain Malik in collaboration with SKUAST, Jammu.

During the distribution, the CAO Kishtwar also interacted with the farmers of Padder area and make them aware about the cultivation practices of Black Zeera on commercial lines.

Besides, The Department of Agriculture, District Kishtwar also laid 20,000 Nos. of Black Zeera Tubers for revival/rejuvenation of 10 Kanals of area for the first time at Zeera Research Farm, Atholi, Padder under the close supervision of CAO, Kishtwar.

Further, it is pertinent here to mention that the same tubers have been introduced at Saffron Development Farm, Berwar, Kishtwar on trial basis.

Chief Agriculture Officer, Kishtwar also directed the concerned officers to supervise the activities regarding Zeera cultivation and record its data for future reference. He mentioned the utility of spice which will only become successful if it is introduced in other parts of non-traditional areas of said district in near future.
The District Administration lauded the efforts of Chief Agriculture Officer, Kishtwar for taking this initiative and showing his keen interest in introduction of Black Zeera cultivation in non-traditional areas of the hilly district for trial purpose.

During the said visit Chief Agriculture Officer, Kishtwar was also accompanied by District level officers and other officers/officials of the department.
